the Ateneo de Davao Junior High School (AdDU-JHS) student leaders took part in this year’s Sui Generis Leadership Camp last August 29-10, 2017 at Manresa by the Sea, Talomo, Davao City.

Themes as “Our Journey as Leaders”, the camp aimed to develop Sui Generis or “one of a kind” leaders among the studentry.

Fifty-five student leaders from the different clubs, organizations, sports teams, and classes graced the activity by the Office of the Coordinator for Student Activities.

“The students should know how to become role models as unique leaders to their fellow Ateneans,” Ms. Rosemar Bataller, the Coordinator for Student Activities, said.

The activity highlighted the core values of the school which are: commitment, competence, compassion, and conscience, through its sessions and team-building activities.

The camp also prompted the leaders to translate their goals into concrete programs and activities.

As speakers, Fr. Michael I. Pineda, S.J., the AdDU-JHS Principal, Ms. Excesima Pasilan, the Assistant Principal for Formation, Mr. Ariel Tubang, a Grade 7 MAPEH faculty, and Ms. Carmela Abay, the AdDU-JHS Registrar, shared their wisdom and expertise to help realize the objectives of the event.

“The [Sui Generis] camp was helpful because it taught us the different values of a leader, especially the camaraderie needed for any group to function smoothly,” Jose Cinches, one of the attendees, remarked.

“Sui Generis” refers to Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) student leaders who are educated and formed according to to the university’s vision and mission.

Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J., the AdDU President, defined in his blog and AdDU Sui Generis leader as “someone prepared for a life of leadership dedicated to the common good through careful cultivation of appropriate ideals, virtues, and leadership skills.”
